A network of small contractors is low cost, yet a big part of the machine that keeps the business running. And it’s a living thing, constantly changing, as new contractors are recruited and existing ones fail or choose to leave. But there’s a balance here. Businesses understand that, advantageous as a large supplier network is, a diverse pool of small contractors also brings degrees of risk. Inevitably, the more links there are in a chain, the greater the likelihood that not all will be strong.
